I have it on good authority that some of the world’s fastest turtles will be in Bernice Saturday at 1 p.m. for the Corney Creek Great Outdoor Festival! Okay, maybe the turtle race entrants haven’t set any records yet, but this could be the day. You just have to give them time.
Okay, maybe they won’t set a world record, but you can bet watching the races will be some fast fun. So will the rest of the Festival. It’s just one of the events at this year’s Festival, which starts at 5 p.m. Friday. There will also be gospel singing Friday night from 7-10 p.m. The event goes on past when I’ll be in bed Saturday night. That’s when the old fashion community street dance will be held from 7-10 p.m. featuring Treble Soul and Chris Jones. And 10 p.m. may just be the “target” end time…
In between will be Easter Egg hunts, a 5K race, all kinds of demonstrations and vendor booths and a treasure hunt. The first clue will be given out at 6 p.m. Friday, so get ready. There will be a parade in downtown Bernice at 3 p.m. Saturday as well. For more information on one of the events, contact Anie Dendy (5K race – 478-0176); Robin Adams (Festival President – 368-5300) Danielle Harkins (parade – 245-3581) or Bernice Town Hall (general information – 285-9071). Festival t-shirts are also on sale. And did I mention there will be lots of good food?
This year’s festival will also honor two new Hall of Fame entries, Clarence Davis, former Bernice Police Chief, and the late Lunda Davis, one of the original organizers of the festival, which began in 1976. The induction ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the grandstand.
For a complete schedule, pickup a copy of this week’s Bernice Banner and check it out.
See you there. And don’t drag around and be late. You might miss the turtle race…
We are looking forward to a great weekend…weather looks like it will be perfect. We have folks combing the area looking for the elusive turtles, the non-biting kind. I think these late cool snaps are keeping them hid away. Thanks for your support!!
