Lake life

Crappie.com

It’s about fishing. No, wait. It’s about food. Well, maybe it’s about “family”, kind of like a reunion of crappie fishing brothers and sisters. I know. It’s all three.

This past weekend’s crappie.com event on Lake D’Arbonne out of the State Park was a success on many levels. It was a fun event for everyone there. it promoted the growth of the crappie fishing industry. And it brought tourism dollars to Union Parish and the surrounding area.

You can say what you will, but the fishing and life on the lake at D’Arbonne is right at the top of the key economic driver list of the region. An example is the visit this weekend from Just Steve, Yankee Doodler, Steelguy, SpartanNation, VBottom and BassNLady. They are members of crappie.com. On the crappie.com forum, the fisher folks all go by nicknames, and these nicknames belong to Steve Ash, Don Miller, John Meyers, Jerry Stiffler, Jeff Bottum and Jeri Toner. They made the trip down for four days all the way from Michigan!

Like all visitors they spend money and go back home and tell others about the lake. And this group did even more. They made a YouTube video of the lake that summarizes the event and even made me want to put on my longjohns and go out in the 20 degree weather and try the crappie again (see below).

Thanks to the group for fishing and promoting D’Arbonne. A tip of the crappie.com cap to the Maxwells, better known as Team Overalls – Juicy and Maxwell328 — Joshua and Warren Maxwell — for coordinating it . They could go anywhere, but choose our backyard. Anytime somebody does that, we all need to go out of our way to tell them “thanks” — and help them have fun and get their money’s worth.
