A new fully rigged Ranger boat is just part of the $50,000 plus that goes to the winners of the American Crappie Trail tournament coming September 13-14 to the Ouachita River in Monroe.
There’s points, too. The kind of points that add up to help pro crappie fishermen qualify for the ACT National Championship next spring.
To date, there are two local (318) team in the top twenty of that points race, but look for several teams to move up the totem pole after the river tournament. That’s Charlie Fitzgerald and Dwain Elliott in 17th place and Ken Myers and Mark Taylor (shown above in their their “banded” boat at the recent Kentucky Lake tournament) currently in 18th place. And look for some new faces to pop up in the top 100, all of which qualify for the championship.
Here’s a look at the top twenty to date, led by the Super Clean sponsored defending champion “Anglers of the Year” Ronnie Capps and Steve Coleman.

HERE’S SOME USEFUL FISHING
INFORMATION FOR THE OUACHITA!

For the most part, fishing has been a little bit slow through July, but a few folks are making some good catches of bass, bream and crappie on the river. One of the veteran (that’s a nice way of saying “old”) crappie masters of the area, Bobby Phillips, has been at it and he has been sharing some detailed fishing reports on Facebook.
I’m sure you will find them just as useful as I did.
“Good morning from Downtown Woodlawn, Louisiana. Family fishing trip South of Little Rock yesterday. We had a great time. I got to fish with Seth my grandson . We laughed and caught lots of fish. Ole Doug put it on all of us with big fish. I’m so blessed to have family that enjoys crappie fishing as much as I do. Its been a big part of my life and good to see it carried on.
Sonya and I were back on the river today . Had a big day caught lots of great ole big uns. Wore us out. We caught um South of Little Rock again but different location . 100 ft away from posted property, by a bobwire fence that had lamas penned up. 20 ft deep in 12 ft of water on baby bulldogs..
We will try again another day.
