It started on opening weekend of bow season. Some really impressive bucks fell. It hasn’t slowed down, and with the rut still going in many areas, more are sure to follow. There are big deer from six or seven north Louisiana parishes scoring way up there this year — and there’s still a lot of season left.
In Union Parish, the leader in the Big Buck Contest is Hunter Breed with a 123 3/8 10-point. The big buck in that even wins $1,000, but you must buy a
$10 ticket at least 24 hours before you harvest the deer.
Several businesses and the local chamber have tickets for sale.
There are also lots of big bucks entered in the Simmons’ Sporting Goods annual Big Buck Contest. All you need to do to enter this contest is bring your buck to the store, have it measured and register. Every entrant has a chance to win a $10,000 shopping spree.
