CAST… her smile says it all
The Catch a Special Thrill (C.A.S.T.) tournament was a big success Saturday, as more than 100 people gathered to help a big group of special kids go fishing, boat riding and enjoy some good food at D’Arbonne Pointe.
The event was made possible by a big group of volunteers and sponsors, and coordinated on the local level by the Union Parish Chamber and Brandon Jennings. Jeff Barnes, Eastern Regional Director of CAST for Kids froom Albertville, Alabama, was also on hand to put on the event. Barnes said there are more than 70 such tournaments now in the southern part of the U.S. and they are growing in popularity. Kids got t-shirts, caps, a rod and reel, tackle box and at the end of the day, a special plaque with their name and a photo of them fishing during the event. That’s pretty cool!
After seeing photos of the event Saturday, it’s easy to see why. Hopefully this will continue to grow and be one of the big annual events on D’Arbonne! These type events are not only important to the participants, but our whole community.
The sponsors were Walmart, Read Lumber and Supply, D’Arbonne Pointe, The Crappie Psychic, McDonald’s, Union Parish Chamber of Commerce, Z107.5 Big Z Country, Union General Hospital, Bass Pro Shops, Lew’s and Flambeau.
