Happy Veterans’ Day. God Bless You, All who served!
Those crazy crappie perch jerkers are going to be out in force the next two weekends. Not just the regular ones, but two special groups, too. Fishing has been a bit challenging and I’m predicting an extra little bit of equipment for these days — hand warmers.
And if you fish D’Arbonne make sure and read the updated announcement at the end of today’s writeup.
First, it’s the annual Crappie.com gathering.
The C.c brotherhood with members from all over the region hit Lake D’Arbonne for a three-day adventure beginning today, Thursday, Nov. 10 through Sunday, Nov.13. As usual, they’ll be headquartered at the Lake D’Arbonne State Park, but this year they will occupy the big Group Cabin which has plenty of room for eating, sleeping and fishing — in between lies and tall tales that would make Presidential candidates blush.
Before I go further, If you have any questions, call or text Mark Weldon at 318-272-8069. He’ll call or text you back, unless he’s landing a big old slabber knocker crappie somewhere! Hey, the public is welcome. All you have to do is bring a love for crappie fishing.

NEWS UPDATE: BOAT RAMPS OFF LA 2 WEST CLOSED NEXT TUESDAY
The Louisiana Department of Transportation has notified the Bayou D’Arbonne Lake Watershed Commission that a contract to overlay Louisiana 2 from Louisiana 15 west to Lake D’Arbonne has been extended to include work on boat ramps on each side of the lake.
Jeff Shapiro, area engineer with DOTD’s District 05 office in Monroe, notified commission members Wednesday that access to boat ramps on both the east and west sides of the LA 2 bridge will be closed to allow D&J Construction to put an asphaltic concrete overlay along access roads to both ramps. In an email to Ron RIley, who serves as engineer for the Lake Commission, Shapiro said the access roads to both ramps – part of the old alignment of LA 2 – are still part of the DOTD road system.
Access to each ramp will be blocked Monday night or early Tuesday to allow completion of the work.
