Guess what is showing up in the woods today that hasn’t been there for months?

Deer tracks.  It was so dry, so long, you couldn’t hardly find a deer track anywhere except in the slightly muddy edges of some almost dried up water hole.  I believe the rest of the week you will be able to see everywhere a deer has taken a step in the woods.  Good timing. Archery and primitive weapon seasons are open. Regular gun season in our area opens up this coming SATURDAY!

Whether you live in Farmerville or Marion or West Monroe or Ruston or Kalamazoo, if you plan on deer hunting IN UNION PARISH, pick up a Big Buck ticket and you will be eligible to win $1,000 if you kill the biggest buck in the parish.  Don’t wait. You have to purchase the ticket 24 hours ahead of the time you kill the deer. That means don’t wait!

Even if you don’t think you will kill a big buck, every ticket is entered in a drawing for $500 at the end of the season. Even I have a chance in that one! The money goes to promote the outdoors and hunting through the Union Chamber of Commerce.

Hunters are off to a good start. This big buck taken by Jarad Riser from Downsville will probably take the lead in the 2nd annual Big Buck contest when this deer is scored later this week. Buck Report Union Parish says Jarad got his ticket at Union Pawn and Gun and “Looks like this is going to be a record year. Get your ticket soon. . .”
