If it makes funny noises when you grab it, has whiskers and slick skin, it’s a catfish (or a slick politician, but you shouldn’t get close enough to one of those to grab them anyway….)
That’s all the identification that some people need. But just in case you are a purist and want to know what kind of catfish you’ve caught, there’s a great poster to help with the ID below. By the way, catfish are biting like crazy on most area lakes. It’s a good time to get out and catch a bunch. If you aren’t used to catfish, watch those fins. They not only stick you, but they have painful venom that will be pretty painful if you let them fin you.
