He that handles a matter wisely shall find good: and whoever trusts in the LORD, happy is he.
Our Pastor just finished an eight week series preaching from the Bible on happiness and contentment. The scriptures bring forth a consistent message – when things are great, we are to be happy. When things aren’t so great, we are to be content and seek happiness because that’s God’s plan for us – happiness of the heart, not misery of the soul. Why? Because whatever bad there is, God has ten times as much good to counter it. It’s all in how we deal with it. It isn’t easy dealing with trials and tribulations, but if we totally trust him, it does bring a peace beyond understanding.
If you are like me, one of the most difficult things to deal with is the political situation in our country and world. In America, so many have moved away from a proud work ethic to a Mardi Gras ethic – “give me something Mister!” So many of our national elected officials seem like aliens in a strange land. They are out of touch with what America is and should be. The whole world also seems to be going crazy. I think the media makes it worse by portraying it that way to somehow make their existence meaningful. They need the happy sermon series.
Here are the wise words of Billy Graham on the matter:
“No Christian has the right to go around wringing his hands, wondering what we are to do in the face of the present world situation. The Scripture says that in the midst of persecution, confusion, wars and rumors of wars, we are to comfort one another with the knowledge that Jesus Christ is coming back in triumph, glory and majesty.”
