The winner of the Union Parish Big Buck Contest will be revealed at the Union Big Buck Sportsman’s Banquet Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Willie Davis Recreational Center in Farmerville. The event will officially bring to end “deer season” activities in Union Parish. It’s for young and old alike. Who knows, maybe the young hunter above may be there to offer some tips on how he was successful! Seriously, if you love the outdoors, deer hunting or are just looking for a good time, here are the details: Doors for the banquet will open at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m. There will be door prizes and the big buck winner will be announced. The mounted big buck will also be on display. In addition, there will be a cash drawing for $500 and your ticket serves as your entry.
There were several big deer entered in the big buck contest, some even from out of state hunters who were here in Union Parish. It will be close and we’ll just have to wait and see. Plans include having a guest speaker and entertainment. Tickets are available at the Chamber on Main Street at $20 apiece. That covers your meal, catered by Mamoo’s. If you have any questions, contact the Chamber at 318-368-3947. This is a ‘new’ event for Farmerville and is the first of two spring events to celebrate the outdoors in Union Parish. These events replace the old September Sportsman’s Expo that has been held here the past couple of years (we’ll have more on the next event tomorrow). The event is sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce.
Don’t miss it.
Note: If you have a business and want to donate a door prize, contact them at the Chamber. Some of the prizes already include a week-end cabin rental, ice chest, greaseless turkey smoker and gun camera to record your trips afield. They are also expecting to have a couple of guns for the event.
