Some say crappie are the new bass. In other words, while bass fishing was trending for decades, the number of new crappie fishermen and expenditures on crappie equipment is about to catch up with the bass boys. I’m not sure of the exact numbers, but by spending time on the lake, I’d have to agree. It certainly looks that way.
And since bass fishermen are famous for loving competition, the crappie boys can’t be far behind. But from what I’ve seen the crappie competitions are geared toward much lower costs, fewer rules and a lot more fun. One such circuit is the Bayou State Crappie Assassins, which kicks off the official 2015 season THIS COMING WEEKEND on Lake D’Arbonne. The price is reasonable and those that took part in Season One earlier this year sure seemed to like it.
Here’s the circuit schedule:
4 REGULAR SEASON TOURNAMENTS:
November 8th: Lake D’Arbonne
December 6th: Black Lake
January 17th: Lake Claiborne
February 28th: Caney Lake
