Bow season opens

archerLouisiana’s bow hunting season for deer opens this morning, October 1, in Areas 1, 2, 4 & 5, which covers most of North Louisiana. The season is open for either sex deer, unless a bucks only gun season is in progress, through Jan. 31, 2015. Check the 2014-15 Louisiana Hunting Regulations  to make sure of which area you are hunting and to ensure you follow rules and regulations. Gun seasons follow on various dates. Check regs for details.

Bowhunting usually requires hunting from a climbing or tree stand, so please make sure your stand is secure. Wear a safety belt and be careful. No deer is worth getting hurt over. And always let somebody know where you are going and when you plan on being back. With this warm weather, make sure you take steps to preserve the meat if you do get a good shot. Then have fun, but remember:

Safety first.
