Bass fishing is just about to bust wide open at Lake D’Arbonne and with a full moon this week and warmer weather coming later in the week, the catches at the Fishers of Men Big Bass Open to be held Saturday, March 30 on D’Arbonne should be a good one.
“They’ve been catching some good bass in other events up there as well as some big bass,” said Brent Crawford, director of the event. “They’ve been weighing in 15 & 16 pound bags and big bass around seven pounds. I would expect to see lots of those this weekend, maybe even bigger.”
Crawford said he expects between 80 and 100 fishermen in the big bass tourney, but with this time of the year with the excitement of some pretty good catches, it could be more. Here’s how it works: Anglers have the opportunity to win a share of over $10,000 in prizes, including the $3,000 big bass payout. Each hour of the tournament, $500 will be awarded for 1st, $250 for 2nd and $150 for 3rd. Anglers can keep up with who’s catching what on a live radio broadcast by Z-107.5.
Fishers of Men involves catching fish, but that isn’t the primary goal.”Fishing on Saturday is a bonus,” Crawford says. “What we really love to do is get the guys and their families out on Friday night and use that time to help spread the Gospel and fellowship with one another.”This tournaments Family Night is also going to be a keeper! Anglers and their families will have a chance to hear nationally known comedian Brad Stine of Nashville and there will be a fish fry, jumpies and games for kids plus live entertainment by Bayou Crossing Band. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the meal is at 7 p.m. at the North La Exhibition Center on Fairgrounds Road in Ruston.
The tournament entry fee is $100 per person. You do not have to be a member of Fishers of Men to fish. For more information, go to the website http://www.fomntt.com/schedule.php?id=3527 or email Brent at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fishers of Men will also be back on D’Arbonne Saturday, April 6 for their regular Team Tournament. You can also find out more information about that on the website.
