My goodness, this year has been amazing for big deer. I don’t know whether it’s the results of continued efforts at management or just one of those years in the woods where everything is coming together for the big deer. It’s got record book readers scrambling to see how this will all shake out.
But there have been dozens of big deer taken Louisiana that score over 150. Even more that scored way on up there in the non-typical category. Even a unicorn. Ok, not really, but a deer that looked like one.
You can check on the deer mentioned here on the Louisiana Sportsman website if you want the whole story. And their Deer of the Year issue will be hitting newstand (or the internet edition) in February with all the biggest.
Hold on, there’s more. Chris Temple of Vidalia has been hunting deer since he was 10 years old. But when he was hunting a stand on his family farm and suddenly a whole herd of deer that was grazing in a food plot took off like they’d seen bigfoot, he didn’t know what was going on. Soon he did. A monster 12-point that scored 190 7/8 stepped out in the field. As he said, there was no doubt that big buck was “the King of the Woods”.
Want more? Check out the entire lineup of Louisiana’s biggest bucks in the past. There will be several new entries this year in the typical and non-typical category. And we’ve still got a long time to go.
