Are you kidding me? It’s October 1? Yep. Hunting season is here.
I know some folks have been shooting doves and a few teal, but October 1 officially marks the start of hunting season — bow season opens for deer. And it didn’t take long for the first photo of a nice buck to pop up on my Facebook feed this morning from the Dubach Deer Factory.
A few quick tips for early season hunting. First of all, make sure you’ve practiced and can make a good shot. Second, when you down a deer, handle it properly and get it cooled and to a processor quickly so the meat will stay good. If you can’t get there quickly, field dress the deer and throw a bag of ice in its body cavity to keep the meat fresh.
And third, have fun. Just like that, hunting season is here… And always, always be careful.
