
What would you do if you saw that coming through the woods?
Labor Day weekend usually starts it. Deer hunters start sensing that opening day they have marked on their calendar — either for archery, primitive weapons or regular gun season — suddenly seems closer than it did before.
Hunters are preparing to go to the woods with all kinds of expectations. To see and get the “big one”, Mr. Wall Hanger. Or just to get a doe for the freezer. But even though they’ll all tell you it’s about “more than just shooting a deer”, well, it is kind of. But that is also kind of like a football coach telling you “it isn’t whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game”.
Yeah, right.
But not even the most optimistic deer hunter ever dreams of seeing something like this in the woods. Or do they? This is a great story from “Wide Open Spaces” about the “Louisiana Freak”, also known as the Sammy Walker Buck. It’s worth sharing:
