Looking good!

ULM Fishing team members recently landed these catches. The team of  Luke O’Neal and Jacob Andrews brought in 18-0 to finish 4th place! Hunter Freeman and Wesley Banks brought in 17-1 to finish 10th place! Both teams are now qualified for the FLW College National Championship in 2019!

There’s a group of young fishing folks in our area that have been doing a great job representing their schools and our area for the past decade.  The trend continues. So here’s a wave of the fishing cap from lakedarbonnelife.com to the young athletes who are blazing a trail in college bass fishing, and quite successfully I might add. The FLW tour and the Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) and B.A.S.S. sponsored Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing Series  circuit rankings are both dotted with success stories from ULM, Tech, LSU and Northwestern anglers.  Here’s an update for the 2017-2018 season in the Cabela’s Series with one event to go:

Here’s a look at the Top 25:

  1. Bethel University (McKenzie, TN)
  2. Auburn University (Auburn, AL)
  3. University of North Alabama (Florence, AL)
  4. Murray State University (Murray, KY)
  5. McKendree University (Lebanon, IL)
  6. Adrian College (Adrian, MI)
  7. Bryan College (Dayton, TN)
  8. University of Louisiana – Monroe (Monroe, LA)
  9. University of Tennessee (Knoxville, TN)
  10. Dallas Baptist University (Dallas, TX)
  11. University of Montevallo (Montevallo, AL)
  12. Missouri State University (Springfield, MO)
  13. Mississippi State (Starkville, MS)
  14. Louisiana Tech University (Ruston, LA)
  15. Tarleton State (Stephenville, TX)
  16. East Texas Baptist University (Marshall, TX)
  17. Rogers State University (Claremore, OK)
  18. Northwestern State University (Natchitoches, LA)
  19. Louisiana State University – Shreveport (Shreveport, LA)
  20. Sam Houston State (Huntsville, TX)
  21. Drury University (Springfield, MO)
  22. Slippery Rock University (Slippery Rock, PA)
  23. Wallace State Community College (Hanceville, AL)
  24. University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa, AL)
  25. Grand Valley State University (Allendale, MI)

Unfortunately, these folks get basically zero coverage in our area news media. And while every sport at their schools down to the left-handed women’s ping pong Thursday night league team gets support from the schools, these folks get very little.

It’s time for that to change. Hopefully someone at their schools will wake up to that fact and help do a better job promoting these fishermen like they do promoting their schools.
