This is the latest installment of our series on 12 months of deer hunting by area deer expert Dan Preaus. Here’s what Dan has to say this month:
It’s that time of year when the real work begins in preparation for the upcoming deer season.
Cleaning out box stands which most likely will involve killing plenty of wasps. Bush hogging roads and shooting lanes along with trimming limbs to improve visibility. Repositioning stands or putting up a stand for the first time in a new location. Disking and spraying to prepare for the planting of fall food plots. Putting feed out and placing game cameras in those locations for the purpose of pinpointing what bucks are in the area. These are just a few examples of what will be taking place in the woods over the next few weeks.
All the work and preparation that is put in now can be just as important to your success in harvesting a deer as the hunt itself. It can also make a successful hunt all the more rewarding.
Be safe out there!
