You’ve probably heard someone make a comment about somebody else, saying, “Yep, he’s a legend . . . in his own mind“.
Well, it’s official. One local resident IS a Legend in a lot of people’s minds. Not just here in Union Parish, but in the national spotlight.
Saturday it was announced that Jerry Antley of Downsville’s Cedar Hill Game Calls has officially been voted in to the Outdoor Legends Hall of Fame. Jerry will be inducted into the Hall about the General Jackson Showboat this summer in Nashville. Tennessee.
” Jerry has been instrumental for years in restocking the wild turkey population in his home area of north Louisiana and he’s the kind of guy who is always promoting turkey hunting. If he sees a kid that he thinks needs a turkey call, he’ll just give him one,” said Gary Mason, Director of the Hall.
Among Jerry’s most notable contributions to the outdoors besides his volunteer work and helping steer youngsters into hunting is the development of the Cedar Hill Little Scratch Box. The Little Scratch Box is an extremely effective turkey call that will actually fit in a hunter’s shirt pocket. And he’s the kind of guy that would never consider himself a legend, even though now it is official. He’s a humble, hard working family man and a great example to those around him in the hunting world.
Jerry is joining the likes of Fred Bear, Ray Scott, Bill Dance, Ray Eye and dozens of notables that have given back in a big way to the outdoors.
Congratulations, Jerry. We’re proud of you and excited for this deserved honor for you, A Legend of the Outdoors. It’s Official! Cluck. Cluck. Gobble. Gobble. BOOM!
