Union Parish’s outdoor treasures go far deeper than big schools of bass, stringers of slab crappie and trophy deer. The same people that are your friends and neighbors living here in the parish are also part of the legendary outdoor resources that make this place special.
The local Gazette newspaper features a group of “Outdoors Legends” each year. This year’s special edition was published this week and is inserted in the Sept. 29 edition. The publication is available in newstands through next Tuesday or at the paper’s main office on North Washington in Farmerville. Writeups are by Peyton McKinnie and Greg Hicks.
Who are the 2016 legends? Legendary game warden and call maker Huey Rhodes; deer hunter Miales Parker, who hunted whitetails longer than most of us live (proof was the big he killed last year at the age of 95); LDWF biologist and wildlife management area boss Larry Savage; and outdoor educator extraordinaire Bill Breed.
If you want more, it’ll cost you 75 cents and a trip to the news stand…
