Perchfest prevails

Saturday’s Perchfest crew

Fresh high water, even higher temperatures and daylight coming so early it scares me – none of that deterred the determined Perchfest crappie thumpers at the Ouachita River Saturday. Overall, $720 in cash and $1,400 n prizes donated by local and area merchants went back to the fishermen. Nineteen boats braved the conditions mentioned above.

And the head fish catchers for the day? Here you go:

1st     Jason Thomas and Scott Johnson   7.60
2nd   Todd Jordan and William Warner   6.80

3rd    Ronnie Turner and Roy Weaver.    6.67
4th    Royce Dement and Tj Dement.      6.03

5th    Jason Dement and Grant Dement 5.83

Big Fish – Patrick Matthews     1.79
Whole fryer award (otherwise known as Dink Fish) – Paul Smith and Steve Thurston   .10

Weights are obviously a little low because the crappie are on their summer diet. But they did good enough to stink up the grease for the next Hunters for Heroes get-together, recipients of the donated fish. Good job to Neal Pace, Kelly Billsborough, Ralph Coston, Maureen Cox and others who put countless hours into the event!
