The D’Arbonne Kayak Club and the Union Humane Society are teaming up to host the annual summer Dog Paddle kayak sprint races on Ramp Road at Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville.The event is Saturday, August 27, 2-5 p.m.
And over on the Ouachita River, up at the Finch Bayou Recreation Area (known as Alabama Landing) there will be an open crappie tournament,commonly referred to as Perchfest 2.0. This is also Saturday, August 27. You must launch at Finch Bayou Rec. Ramp or Sterlington ramp, 8 poles or less, live bait or artificial baits, 1 or 2 people per boat. $40.oo per Boat and $5.00 boat ramp fee at Alabama landing, You may Register at Alabama landing ramp from 5am to 5:50am or preregister. As for the dog paddlers, sprints are less than a mile (varies by age group) and race heats are held for Kids, Teens, Women, Men, Team Relay (4 people), and this year a paddle with your dog race! Registration for each entry will be $10 and will benefit the Union Humane Society who will be onsite selling hot dogs and other items! A maximum of $25 per family (of four) will be charged for all entries (four entries allowed). Door prizes and division trophies will be awarded. No experience is necessary and kayaks ARE provided. All heat races will use the same kayaks (except for the dog race–where individuals may use their own kayaks). Beat the Dog Days of Summer by enjoying a day of family fun on the water and help support the local Union Humane Society. For hing time is 6 am to 12 pm with weigh in at Park starting at 1 pm. You must be in line no later than 1:30 pm no exceptions. Paying big fish, dink fish and paying 5 places on best 7 fish with minimum size of 9inches (besides dink). Pay back depends on boat count. Boundary waters will be from D’Arbonne Bayou mouth and up bayou to Felsenthal locks and all tributaries in between as long as can access by boat from river, that’s a 40 mile stretch of water. Bayou D’Arbonne is open to fishing, but going very far up the bayou is a long haul!). There is 100% payback, Pre-fishing allowed thru Thursday before tournament. Fish do not have to be alive due to hot weather and you may keep as many as you want but can only weigh in 7 and dink.
