I remember the day when I fished in the “Majestic” Bass Classic on Lake D’Arbonne. Barely. It was long ago when my hair was darker colored and more abundant…and I moved a bit faster.
I’m not even sure it was called that then, but I do remember paying my entry fee and trying to fish through a 26-hour long Iron Man bass fishing tournament. These days, I’ll just be a spectator. But that won’t stop more than 200 other more brave souls from fishing in the 2014 classic, which will be held out of the local marine dealership on June 14-15. Entry fee is $100 and payout with include over $22,000 in cash and prizes.
The tournament format allows for payouts for big bass each hour for the top five places. There are also special prizes for the lady angler that catches the most weight and youth divisions. There’s even a fruit jar tournament for big bass overall and a big stringer award for the top five fish caught by each angler. There’s something for everyone…except sleep.
Okay, if you are smart, you would probably fish the peak hours and then sneak a nap in the truck or backseat of the boat sometime during the all day-all night affair.
Entry blanks are available at local sporting goods dealers and No-Doze is available at area pharmacies.
