Sportsman’s Expo: Family fun

Gentlemen, start your engines. It’s almost hunting season and time to get ready for fall fishing. And there’s no better way to get your outdoor motor running than spending a few hours at the Lake D’Arbonne Country Sportsman’s Expo in Farmerville. Mark your calendar:  Saturday, September 21. It is also a really great day to help young people learn more about hunting, fishing and the outdoors. There will be fun and activities, good food and plenty of displays to interest young and old alike. A few of the highlights include:

COOKING — “Blowin’ Smoke” grilling competition will be a hot feature of the  Sportsman’s Expo (Saturday, September 21).  If your organization or business has a cook team ready to fire up the grill, go ahead and enter now.  For entry form, go to http://www.darbonne-sportsmans-expo.com. Just think:  your team could win bragging rights, admiration of your peers … and a big honkin’ TROPHY.

expoPHOTOGRAPHY — Hey, photographers!!!  Cash prizes will be awarded to the top winners of the Sportsman’s Expo Wildlife Photo Contest.  The deadline to enter your best shots is only about a week away.  Check out the Expo website for details and entry form:  http://www.darbonne-sportsmans-expo.com. Deadline is September 9 to submit your photos to the Gazette, 102 North Washington Street, Farmerville.  Thanks to the Gazette for sponsoring this year’s photo contest.

DUCKMEN LOOKALIKE — The Lake D’Arbonne Country Sportsman’s Expo on Saturday, September 21 will hold a Duckmen lookalike contest to choose those best resembling any of the famous Duck Commander guys or any cast members of the “Duck Dynasty” television show on A & E network.  Prizes will be awarded in two categories:  adults (age 18 and up); youth (17 and under).  A panel of three judges will choose winners based on entrants’ appearance and demeanor, Jack.

SHOTGUN RAFFLE — Deal of the weekend!  You could be the proud new owner of a Remington 887 3-1/2 inch magnum 12 gauge shotgun for just $5. There’s just one catch: You have to buy a raffle ticket and there will be only one winner. Still, it’s a deal that’s too good to pass up. For more information, contact Toni Smith. Tickets are also available at the Chamber Office, Read Lumber and local banks in Farmerville. Buy a ticket. It’s worth a shot.

There’s lots more. Check the website for details.

  1. Is there any way you can post a schedule of events, i.e. time and place or is it already posted and I missed it. Is there a link to it? Thanks

GOOD QUESTION! NOTE FROM LAKEDARBONNELIFE.COM There is a website for the event, http://www.darbonne-sportsmans-expo.com/

Scroll down on the site and there is a downloadable schedule of events. Just click on it. Hope this helps.

  2. I sure hope all you duck hunters are ready for Teal season. For those who normally hunt on Wham Brake a special good luck to you. Don’t forget your most needed piece of equipment, a weed eater. You might want to take your four wheeler so you can ride around looking for some water. Many thanks to our fine LDWF for making this possible. Like the Saints, wait till next year. Maybe.

  3. Kinny —

Thanks for all the Expo promotions on your website.  It’s a great help in spreading the word.

Katie Knight, the 18 year-old country singer-songwriter who lives in Farmerville (making a name for herself in Nashville, too), will emcee the Duckmen Lookalike contest.  She will make the event even more fun.  Brandi Watson and Todd Causey, who host the “Southern Outdoors” show on Big Z 107.5 radio (along with Mountain Man), will be two of the three judges.  The Duck Commander people in West Monroe have generously donated prizes for the contest. (duck calls, tee shirts, cap).
