The 2013 Forrest Wood Cup is coming to the Red River in Shreveport. This is the most prestigious tournament of the year on the growing FLW tour. Area fishermen who want to see some of the top fishermen in the world, a super outdoor show and some top fishing seminars need to mark their calendars. It’s set for Aug. 15-18. With a guaranteed first-place prize of $500,000, there is clearly more than bass on the line…
And locals will want to be pulling for the only fisherman from Louisiana to qualify, — the 2013 National College Tour Champion Paul Clark of Monroe, representing the University of Louisiana-Monroe. Clark led the ULM team to the National Championship this year. Congratulations first of all for that accomplishment and GOOD LUCK on the Red (If he wins the gold, perhaps they’ll start calling it the Maroon River instead of the Red…).
Clark qualified for the 2013 Forrest Wood Cup after winning the 2013 FLW College Fishing National Championship on Beaver Lake this past April with the help of his teammate Brett Preuett. Fishing for ULM since 2011, Clark has scored third, sixth and 10th place finishes in the Southern Division, a second-place finish during the Southern Conference Championship in 2012 as well as this year’s college national championship title. Clark has also netted over $25,000 in scholarships and winnings since the start of his college fishing career. Clark is a recent graduate in Management and is originally from Colfax, La.
“I was introduced to fishing by my dad and both of my grandpas”, Clark said. “In my family everybody fishes – even my memaw fished in the Bassin’ Gals back several years ago!”
“I’ll be spending every weekend in Shreveport,” said Clark. “We only live about an hour and a half away from the Red River. Brett and I actually won a team tournament there last summer. I’m so pumped because I can’t believe that I will be fishing against the best anglers in the world. I’m going to give it everything that I’ve got.”
Here’s the best part for us regular fishermen and fishing fans. There’s lots to do that doesn’t even involve seeing the daily launches at the Red River Marina South or the weigh-ins at the CenturyLink Center.
