Fishing report blew away

The dog didn’t eat my fishing report this week.  The wind blew it away.  Last record I have of it was as it passed through Kentucky headed north at about 62 miles an hour.  Actually, there was no need to go stand at the boat ramp, talk to any fishermen or call any bait stands to know what the fishing report for the last few days was:   Windy. Real dad-gum windy. The Monroe Regional Airport recorded gusts in excess of 70 miles an hour. Coming across the open lake, it seem liked 100!

I guess it’s Mother Nature’s way of giving the fish a break, but the past two days have been pretty unfishable, unless you were at Aunt Lucy’s pond in the hollow casting downwind. It’s going to get better this weekend. Look for a fishing frenzy — at least from the fishermen. Will the fish come out and play? Well, we will just have to wait and see.

Even with better weather last weekend, the college boys had a tough time of fishing on one of the nation’s best bass lakes. The Hardin-Simmons University team of Randy Sullivan of Woodson, Texas, and Hubbell

Allen of Graham, Texas, won the FLW College Fishing Southern Conference event last Saturday with five bass weighing 17 pounds, 13 ounces. The victory earned the club $2,000 and advanced the team to the FLW College Fishing Southern Conference Invitational tournament.

The University of Louisiana Monroe team of  Nick Ladart and Brian Eaton, both of Monroe, caught five bass weighing 12-12 to finish seventh in the tournament. Louisiana Tech’s Matthew Loetscher of Many and Caleb Boudreaux of Doyline finished 12th with 12-5.  ULM’s Blake Alford and Paul Clark were 24th with 10-10 and Tech’s Brandon Greco and Dustin Browning were 38th with 6-12.  LSU’s top team in the tourney was Adam Gotangco and Beau Hadskey with 3-03.
