Lost as a goose

A few days ago, two young snow geese landed in a vacant lot in our subdivision on the lake and spent a good part of the day there.

It’s one of those “life on KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAthe lake” moments I keep talking about. Maybe all that flying and flying and flying then landing in crowded grain fields along with hundreds of other geese just got a bit monotonous. Or maybe they were just lost.

Sometimes life can make you feel like giving up, or just not trying as hard.  You might feel lost as a goose, especially with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. There’s an easy answer to finding peace with any situation. There is an answer. It’s found in belief and faith in the true Christmas story:

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. And all went to be taxed, everyone to his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city called Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem to be taxed with Mary wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her first born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them at the inn.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone about them; and they were sore afraid. And the angel said to them, “Fear not: for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born today in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

…And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will towards men.

  1. Are you saying the angels (heavenly hosts) are like snow geese? Are you implying they were lost when they got to Bethlehem? I think your Sunday School teacher needs some “in service” time if this is the best theology his pupils can generate.

Seriously Kinny, you make a great point. And sometimes solitude is what you need to cause you to reflect on the Christmas story. Have a great Christmas. Emil
