A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than jewels. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
— Proverbs 31:10
I have a little wooden sign that hangs over my computer desk that is a true fishing story. It simply says: “One fine fisherman and his best catch ever live here”
You can debate the first part, but the second part is indisputable. My wife, DiAnne, has been the biggest blessing of my life. She gets in the boat with me and spends the day fishing, even though she doesn’t like to fish that much. Generally she reads a book while I pursue food for supper. One day I pulled up to a good fishing spot and caught five big bass in a row. The last one, the biggest of all of course, broke my line. I scurried around trying to tie on a new lure and she asked, “Isn’t that enough?”. Fishermen know the answer to that question. Enough is always “just one more”. But that’s okay.
Earlier this year, she spent three days walking the floor of the world’s biggest fishing tackle and boat show with me without a complaint. She even stopped at one booth and asked, “Do you have one of these? You should get one.”
She has camped in a tent and a camper trailer with our kids and me; ridden four-wheelers through pine thickets; somehow found money in the budget to buy a new boat; followed me to fishing tournaments all over the place, even spending one night in the Metz Motel (you may have to be from Farmerville to understand that one!) and somehow patched impossible holes in my waders more than once. The list is lengthy.
And she is always an encourager, even when an old man like who can barely tech saavy enough to check his e-mail says, “Hey, I think I’ll start a Blog!”. She is a great partner and friend, an excellent mother to our children and wonderful grandmother to our children’s children. As a school teacher for nearly 30 years, she has not just taught, but cared for and mentored countless young people in and out of her classroom.
She’s my best catch ever. No doubt about it.
This was your best story yet!!
