Lake Darbonne Youth Fishing Camp was a Huge Success

The hot August heat didn’t deter the fishing this week at Camp Big Fish on Lake D’arbonne that was put on by the Town of Farmerville. Several sponsors stepped up and helped to make this camp something special. During the week, the campers got to learn all kinds of cool things like knot tying, kayaking fundamentals, how to fish, and at the end of the week, they had a fishing tournament so they could show how much they’ve learned.

The kayaking day was led by Union Parish Library Director Stephanie Herrmann and an amazing group of volunteers; Robert Rachal, Steve Birmingham, Sharon Boesman Galyean, John Bradford, Tom Fields, Bonnie Fields and William Stewart joined the crew at the park to teach the campers about kayaking and water safety.

The fishing side of the week was handled by some of the best anglers in our area; Bradley Isaac, Patrick Brandon, Nick Dewolf, Chad Jerkins, William Whetstone and High School Champion Angler Rhett Anderson. Also, everyone involved would like to send a very special thank you to Eric ”Hurricane” Howard, of HH Rods & Reels, who generously donated a fishing rod and reel for each of our campers that they will take home at the end of the week.

Here’s a video of the fishing tournament that was held today.
