T.T. Fields Dam & Spillway unveiled

IMG_1547The Lake D’Arbonne spillway just got a name.

The structure was officially named the T.T. Fields Dam and Spillway with the unveiling of the new sign at the D’Arbonne Country Club.  Louisiana Senator Mike Walsworth helped family members Tom “Tuffy” Fields, his wife Bonnie, son Christopher and Tuffy’s granddaughter Ava uncover the new sign to a big round of applause by those in attendance.

Screen Shot 2015-10-09 at 11.46.34 AMT.T. Fields was the State Representative who undertook the ambitious task of filing a bill and pushing for funding of the new lake way back in the 1950’s. Without him and others who worked had to politic the bill to passage, Farmerville would more than likely be sitting in the middle of 905 acres of Union Parish woodlans today.

“I am really proud of this and appreciate this,” said Tuffy. “The only thing I hate is that he and the others that worked so hard to get this lake didn’t get to see the benefits of what they have done.”

Next time you wet a line in the lake or watch the sunrise over the water, take a minute and give a little “thank you” to the folks who had the insight, tenacity and work ethic to make the lake become a reality.
