Saturday, March 7, is Award’s Day in Simmons’ Sporting Goods annual Big Buck Contest for the 2014-15 season. There are some whoppers entered in the contest, which features more than $150,000 in prizes.
Donald Forbes’ huge 14 pointer that scored 201 7/8 is the biggest of the contest season for guns and it was taken here in Louisiana. It’s pictured to the left. Marc Dugas killed the largest deer with a bow and arrow, a 13-point which huge tines. It scored 189 6/8. It is pictured below.
The Award’s Day always draws a huge crowd to the sporting goods store in Bastrop. There are loads of prizes for the hunters, but also prizes for those in attendance who didn’t have a winner. Every hunter who entered a deer has a chance to win a $10,000 shopping spree! Simmons’ is the largest sporting goods dealer in the south and, in addition to being a fantastic place to show, it’s a big tourism draw for our entire region.
