Archery season for deer opens in Louisiana Tuesday, October 1, and runs through January 31, 2014. So guess what the topic is at the next “Wild Connections” series sponsored by the Union Parish Library and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries?
How did you guess? A program on bow hunting and archery will be held Tuesday, Sept. 24, a week before the season starts. The seminar will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Union Parish Library. Archery Specialist
Rodney Denton will present details about preparing for bow season, tips for archery hunters and techniques for bow hunting.
I’m not a bow hunter, but expect some pretty interesting information. It should be a great night for bowhunters and an excellent opportunity for youngsters to learn more about the sport.
I am a backstrap eater and do expect to fully indulge in being a judge in the “Battle of the Backstrap” cooking contest, which is also part of the seminar. You can be a judge, too. The only qualifications are the ability to eat a couple of samples and check the winner on your ballot. Both are provided free of charge. There will also be an exhibit on the history of archery in the lobby display case. For more information, contact the library at 368-9226.
