Saturday will be a great day to take a kid fishing. And a great place to do it is the Lake D’Arbonne State Park, where registration for a kids fishing derby will begin at 8 a.m. at the park located between Bernice and Farmerville.
Don’t have a fishing pole? No problem. The first 100 kids to register will receive a free telescopic fishing pole ready to use, courtesy of the Association of Louisiana Bass Clubs. The tournament is free. There is a $1 per person entry fee to the park.
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries will also co-host the derby. Kids will fish for one hour and prizes will be awarded in two age groups for the first fish, largest fish and most fish. A bait casting contest will also be held for ages 6-9 and 10-14. Also, there will be two bicycles given away, one to a boy and one to a girl. All fishing will take place from the bank and park fishing piers. For more information, contact the park at 368-6291.
