When you throw a shiner out on the hook under a cork these days, you never know what you will come up
with. On a lake like D’Arbonne, where there are all kinds of fish, that’s just what you might catch — all kinds of fish.
In the early spring, shallow water — from two to six feet deep — hold just about every kind of fish. But they have one thing in common — they are hungry. In the photo to the right, there’s evidence of this fact: Three white perch, a largemouth bass, a catfish and two yellow bass. All caught on live minnows, fished about three -four feet deep. Not exactly a championship catch, but enough to make the peanut oil bubble at suppertime.
Now where’s that bag of french fries?
