This weekend’s weather was great, but the wind was detrimental to much fishing success. Fishing reports are spotty right now, which means that even though fishermen are ready for fishing to pick up, it hasn’t. Here’s a report that is bound to get better in the next week or so:
Lake D’Arbonne bass fishing is fair. Some of the best fishermen who are really willing to work on it are catching some good fish on jigs and creature plastics like lizards and Brush Hawg type baits. Some fish are being caught shallow, but most of the fish are scattered. White perch fishing is slow as the fish seem to be in transition between deep water and staging areas.
Another week of warm weather during the days could have them headed to shallow water soon. The
water level has leveled off just a little bit above pool stage and is clearing up a bit. Water level as of yesterday was 80.9 feet. Pool is 80.0.
At Lake Claiborne, the white perch bite that has been really good at the spillway area and other deep water spots has slowed somewhat. There are still some being caught, but the yellow bass seem to have taken over some of the best crappie spots. Bass fishing has been fair up the coves on spinnerbaits and plastics.
The effects of recent rains are still hampering fishing on the Ouachita River. The water is muddy and rolling. There is a lot of trash in the river, so be careful with boating. Bass fishing is fair off the river in river lakes, but nothing to make anglers line up at the boat ramps. White perch fishing up some of the bayous is fair, but again nothing special.
It seems like every year there is a lull in the action at Poverty Point on the crappie fishing and this appears to be it. Fishing had been fair, but has been really tough the past week. Don’t despair, they’ll be back at it in a week or so even better than before.
