Fishing report

It’s been a great week to be outdoors.  The weather has been beautiful. The recent rains have given everything a bright new look. And even though the rainfall has muddied the water in places and put a rise on Lake D’Arbonne, the fish seem to be biting. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, I’d give it a five from what I’ve been hearing. And in case you haven’t noticed, the projected low temperatures this coming Sunday and Monday will dip down into the mid-40‘s.  So make sure you are prepared. That will probably set back the fishing a few days. As a reminder, there is a link to Lake D’Arbonne Country weather at the right of this page. Just one click takes you right to the forecast.

Here’s a quick fishing report:
Bass seem to be the hottest item right now. The catches in the Media Bass Tournament on the Ouachita River this weekend were pretty good. These are some of the best bass fishermen in the area, but they caught fish on spinnerbaits and shad-like crankbaits for the most part.  The fish are active on cuts, runouts and up in the creeks near the bank. They are mostly chasing shad. I haven’t heard much about white perch fishing there.

On Lake D’Arbonne, spinnerbaits and small crank baits fished on humps and around shallower areas have been producing some good catches. Up both creeks has been the best, but you have to slow down due to the muddy water. Work the lure fairly slow and keep your eyes open for fish chasing shad.  Even if you don’t see fish break the water, if the shad are jumping out of the water, there is probably something after them. They don’t just do that for exercise.   Worms and jigs have also produced around the grass. White perch fishermen are starting to pick up some catches in the channels, but the action has been spotty and the fish are running small.

Catfishing and crappie seem to be the best bet on Lake Claiborne.  There have been some good catches reported. There are also a few bass being caught. Crappie fishing has been fair. The fish here seem to still be on the ledges and in the sunken brushtops. The water level here hasn’t fluctuated as much as at D’Arbonne.

Bream fishermen aren’t reporting much luck anywhere.  That may be because the fish aren’t biting, or it could be all the bream fishermen are in the woods looking for squirrel and deer… Tip of the day: The approaching cold front will probably slow down fishing a bit, but three or four days after it, the fish should be biting even better.
