It’s time for all you bass fishermen out there to start getting ready for the annual Lake D’Arbonne Grand & Lofty bass tournament. Well, maybe that’s not they call it, but that’s what Majestic means!
The annual Majestic Big Bass Classic will be held out of Ludwig Marine on the lake June 12 & 13. You could also call it an Iron Man tournament. The event goes for 26 hours. At stake are bragging rights as the Majestic champion, and oh, yes…thousands of $$$$$ in hourly and overall cash and prizes.
In fact, the big bass of the event wins $1,000 plus $400 as the hourly big bass. There’s also an overall big bass fruit jar tournament that often offers up to $2,000 for the winner. There are also awards for heavy stringer, women’s divisions and youth divisions. More than 200 fishermen usually take part in the event.
Entry forms are available at area sporting goods stores and final registration will be on June 12 from 4-8 p.m. at Ludwig’s. Entry fee is $100. Expect some really good bass to be caught. Local David Harrell is the defending champion. He won $3,200 last year or his 7.36 pound lunker. In 2013, Kendall Parent of West Monroe delivered the first place catch to the scales, an 8.33 pound largemouth.
The tournament record was landed in 2005, when Curt Shumock of Laurel, Miss., caught an 11.21 pound beast the last hour of the tournament.
